There are some childhood treats that instantly bring back memories, and oatmeal cream pies are definitely one of them. Soft, chewy oatmeal cookies sandwiched around a sweet and fluffy cream filling have been a favorite for generations. These Oatmeal Cream Pie Flavored Cupcakes take all of those nostalgic flavors and turn them into an irresistible homemade dessert!
For Jared’s birthday earlier this month, I made these Oatmeal Cream Pie Cupcakes as a nod to his favorite childhood treat. He has stated multiple times before how nostalgic the Little Debbies Oatmeal Cream Pies are for him and that they are tied to wonderful childhood memories. With that in mind, I wanted to take the cozy flavors and textures of the traditional cookies and turn them into a cupcake to celebrate his big day.
If you tell me your favorite flavor or treat, I’m going to remember it! Food is my love language so gifting friends and family something tasty and comforting is my way of showing up. Jared was so appreciative that I remembered this childhood memory and of course LOVED these cupcakes!
I also love making shortcut recipes that save on time – especially over the past few years since I have not been able to stay standing in the kitchen due to back issues. A shortcut recipe is using store-bought box mixes as a base for a recipe and then altering it to achieve your own version.
These cupcakes start with a cozy boxed spice cake mix and are topped with a mixture of creamy and fluffy favorites to concoct a frosting that replicates the classic cream filling. And the topping.. Of course I had to use actual Oatmeal Cream Pies pieces and crumbs to decorate!
Though a shortcut recipe to accommodate inexperienced bakers or someone short on time.. These cupcakes still look and taste homemade and oh so nostalgic! They are perfect for fall gatherings, bake sales, potlucks, or simply when you’re craving a nostalgic homemade treat. They are also a fun dessert to make with kids, especially for anyone who loves the classic combination of oatmeal cookies and sweet cream filling.

Ingredients:
- 1 Box Spice Cake Mix + Cake ingredients per box instructions
- 1 – 12oz. Container Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1 – 7oz. Jar Marshmallow Fluff
- 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 1 Box Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies
Instructions
- Preheat oven and bake cake mix in cupcake liners per the box instructions.
- Once cupcakes have completely cooled, gently combine cream cheese frosting, marshmallow fluff and spices in a stand mixer (or large mixing bowl with a hand mixer).
- Unwrap 4 oatmeal cream pies and crumble them. Add crumbles and pieces to frosting mix and gently mix in until combined.
- Spread or pipe frosting onto cupcakes. Then top with additional cookie pieces and/or cookie crumbs.
