We are preparing for a new month of holidays, observances and celebrations! We will be doing lots of reading this summer and we will be reaching for books from these 19 lists of children’s books for the month of June.

Caribbean Heritage Month

June is Caribbean Heritage Month! This list includes over 160 children’s book and stories about the geography, vibrant culture, history, wildlife and people of Caribbean nations. This month-long observance celebrates the achievements of Caribbean Americans across politics, the arts, science & business.

These books celebrate Caribbean heritage in settings that include: Cuba, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad & Tabago, Dominican Republic. Grenada, The Bahamas, Dominica, Aruba, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, The Virgin Islands.

National Camping Month

National Camping Month is celebrated throughout June. It is the perfect time to get outdoors, unplug, and enjoy nature. These books are great to read with your outdoorsy kiddos – book topics including camping, hiking, outdoor adventures, bonfires, s’mores, exploring the outdoors and more!

June 1st: World Reef Awareness Day

World Reef Awareness Day, observed annually on June 1st, focuses on educating the public about the critical importance of coral reefs and the urgent need to protect them from threats like climate change, pollution, and unsustainable tourism. This day encourages, eco-friendly actions to conserve these “rainforests of the sea”.

June 3rd: Global Running Day

Global Running Day 2026 takes place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The annual, worldwide celebration encourages millions of runners of all ages and paces to get outside, log some miles, and pledge to move in honor of the sport. This collection of books & biographies includes stories about track & field stars, marathoners, triathletes, and runners who broke barriers.

June 3rd: World Bicycle Day

World Cycling Day (officially established as World Bicycle Day) is celebrated globally on June 3rd every year. The United Nations officially declared this day to recognize the bicycle’s longevity, versatility, and role as an affordable, reliable, and sustainable means of transportation. June 5th: National Donut Day

Did you know National Donut Day traces back to WWI?

National Donut Day is an annual food holiday celebrated on the first Friday of June. It honors the “Donut Lassies,” the courageous Salvation Army volunteers who served the fried treats to American soldiers on the front lines during World War I to boost morale. The day was officially established in Chicago in 1938 as a fundraiser to help the needy during the Great Depression and to commemorate the volunteers.

June 8th: World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is an international holiday observed annually on June 8 to celebrate the ocean’s role in our lives and raise awareness about marine conservation. Established in principle in 1992 and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008, the day mobilizes millions of people to protect the world’s waters.

June 14th: Flag Day

Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. Though it is not an official federal holiday, it is widely recognized across the country with community events, parades, and ceremonies. Here are 30 educational children’s books that teach kids about the history and symbolism of the American Flag.

June 19th: Juneteenth

Juneteenth (June 19) is a federal holiday in the United States that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It marks the anniversary of the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free. Many civil rights organizations, such as the NAACP, encourage using the holiday to advocate for equality, civic engagement, and community thriving.

International Surfing Day celebrates surfing and it’s lifestyle, plus brings awareness to beaches and coastal environments around the world. As a peak millennial who grew up watching Blue Crush, I had a little too much fun putting this list together! Here are 30 books all about surfing.

June 21st: Summer Solstice

The summer solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It occurs when Earth’s tilt toward the sun reaches its maximum, ushering in the astronomical start of summer. The first day of summer in 2026 will take place on June 21st.

June 29th-July 12th: Wimbledon

Wimbledon begins this month! From Memorial Day Weekend when Roland Garros begins to Labor Day Weekend when The U.S. open ends, we have tennis on nonstop! Right in the middle of those tournaments we have Wimbledon on. I love the traditions of this major and even more, the competetion. This list of tennis books and biographies celebrates tennis stars who have shaped the game + fun reads for your little tennis players!

July 4th: Independence Day

With the 4th of July holiday early in the next month, we like to get our patriotic books out in June to enjoy – so I am including this list of over 150 children’s books and biographies to teach about our founding fathers, the American Revolution, celebrating America’s independence and the symbols of America!
