March is Women’s History Month and today, March 8th is International Women’s Day!
This collection of books is a prime example of why I invest in so many kids books as learning tools. These books have been incredible sources of empowerment for Emerson and have peaked her interest more than any other books we read together. My wishlist for this collection is a mile long!
For reference, Emerson is almost 4. A few of the books on this list are ones that she will grow into, but for the most part she has taken to the short summaries of the women in these books.
There are so many incredible women to learn from in the women’s rights movement and throughout history. Iconic women for their achievements, warriors for equality, adventurers, heroines in the history books, girl power pioneers.. these pages empower, inspire and celebrate those who have paved the way and teach my little girl to reach for the stars and know she has no limitations.
For this post, I separated the books into 4 categories based on what we own.
The books below are linked here.
Women in Sports
Women in Entertainment & The Arts
Women in History & Activism

I imagine this day has a different meaning for different women around the world, but for Jared and I.. we know showing interest in a day like today will spark and enable our fiery, little red head. For now.. I’ll watch her keep up with the boys in the cul-de-sac and boss them around!
We have an extensive kids book collection with books to celebrate and educate holidays, social topics, animals, and science to name a few. We also have a great collection of books that include successes of both men and women in their respective fields/categories. Those books include AMAZING women, but for the purpose of today’s celebration of International Women’s Day, I am only sharing the books about specific women/only women.
A library card is the most ideal and cost effective way to explore books for kids. For us, we like to display our books, and read the heck out of them, so purchasing and owning is our preference. Here are my top places to get kids books (both used and new) at an affordable price:
- Thriftbooks.com
- 2nd & Charles or other used book stores in your area
- Amazon Deals
- TJ Maxx & Marshalls
Stay tuned for other kids book favorites!
