We just got home from our first Home Depot Kids Workshop!
This is something that I’ve had on our calendar for almost a year, but we were never able to make it due to busy schedules. We did however get to bring home one of the kits last year to do on our own which was great.
The second half of 2023, our weekends were filled with holiday outings and content shooting days. For 2024, Jared and I agreed to prioritize this activity once a month. We may not get to every workshop, but we are going to try our best!
With this being our first in-store workshop, we had little expectations. From start to finish our overall experience was fantastic, fun and educational. Here are a few reasons why we love this program for Emerson:
- Parent-Child Bonding
- Promotes Creativity
- Basic Building & Tool Skills
- Motor Skills & Hand-Eye Coordination
- It’s FREE!
This craft also taught the importance of following directions, building safety and teamwork.
Start by registering online and show up to your local Home Depot store on the 1st Saturday of every month. Some months during the holiday season have 2 different weekends for workshops. The workshops run from 9am-12pm. I was told today that the company may be doing away with the online registration option, so be sure to come early to ensure you get a kit.
Upon arrival your child will receive an apron, craft kit with step-by-step instructions, collectable pin and certificate. Once we were at the workspace, the necessary tools and supplies were set out for us. Another reason why we loved this class, is it allows family/child to work at their own pace. There was no rush to finish or keep up with the steps.
Emerson is 3.5 years old so Jared did need to help her with a lot of the steps, but as we do this more often, I am excited to watch him step back as she gains a little more confidence and independence each month. Even if my OCD is going crazy, I have to remind myself that this is a kids activity and this is how she learns. It will never be “picture perfect” and that is OK! It’s about the experience and the time spent together.
The January 2024 Workshop was a Home Depot Delivery Truck. Here is a little video of our experience.
The next couple of workshops:
- February 3rd, 2024: Valentines Basket
- March 2nd, 2024: Butterfly House
Be sure to double check with your local Home Depot to ensure they offer the workshops – most do.
Overall, we highly recommend this educational, fun and FREE experience and cannot wait to go back next month!
